Dick Hensold & Rosalind Buda in concert
Commodore Barry Arts and Cultural Center, 6815 Emlen Street, Philadelphia
Northumbrian smallpiper Dick Hensold and bassoonist Rosalind Buda perform a rollicking blend of traditional Celtic tunes, lushly arranged in an innovative and musical style–all delivered with technical flair, joyful ease, and a variety of instruments. Both musicians have spent years playing the traditional music of Scotland, Ireland, Northumberland, and Brittany, but were highly-trained classical musicians before that, so the performance is informed by a deep study of the music's history, and infused with a sensitive musicality. You will hear duets for smallpipes (Scottish and Northumbrian), songs accompanied by pipes and whistles, Breton tunes for pipes and bombard, Border pipe duets, and a rare and unusual pairing of Northumbrian smallpipes with bassoon.
