What could be more fun than bagpipes and bassoon? Northumbrian smallpiper Dick Hensold, bassoonist Rosalind Buda, and Robin Bullock (guitar, cittern) perform a rollicking blend of traditional Celtic tunes, lushly arranged in an innovative and musical style–all delivered with technical flair, joyful ease, and a variety of instruments. These musicians have spent years playing the traditional music of Scotland, Ireland, Northumberland, and Brittany, but were highly-trained classical musicians before that, so the performance is informed by a deep study of the music's history, and infused with a sensitive musicality. You will hear duets for smallpipes (Scottish and Northumbrian), songs accompanied by pipes, whistles, and strings, Breton tunes for pipes and bombarde, and a rare and unusual pairing of Northumbrian smallpipes with bassoon.
Bios
Rosalind Buda (Scottish smallpipes, bassoon, bombarde, whistles, voice) thrives as a performer and teacher of classical bassoon as well as Celtic and early music. She keeps busy as an orchestral, chamber, and solo musician–currently working with 11 different ensembles. She also regularly performs as a traditional solo Scottish Highland piper, at concerts, functions, and competitions, and frequently teaches at piping workshops such as The Pipers Gathering, Upper Potomac Piper’s Weekend, Celtic Arts Foundation Smallpipes Weekend, and Cairdeas. Dick Hensold (Northumbrian smallpipes, Scottish reel pipes, whistles, recorder) is the leading Northumbrian smallpiper in North America.
